Plex It has, by default, a small repository of channels that allow us to provide the server with a series of small applications, or extensions, that allow us to access certain types of content from our server. However, although it is a very interesting function with a lot of potential, the truth is that it is very poorly exploited.
Luckily, there is an unofficial channel store, or extensions, that allows us to have access to hundreds of the most interesting channels and applications directly from our Plex server: WebTools.
How to install WebTools on Plex and download unofficial channels and plugins
WebTools is a tool designed to help Plex users keep their libraries totally neat and organized, as well as very easily configure the server and, as we have explained, install extensions and add-ons from its store of unofficial channels.
The process of WebTools installation It can be confusing for many users, although the truth is that it is simple. To do this, we simply have to download the bundle from the following link, decompress it, and copy the content to the appropriate path according to the operating system we use:
- Windows:% LOCALAPPDATA% Plex Media Server Plug-ins .
- Mac ~ / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Plug-ins.
- Linux $ PLEX_HOME / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Plug-ins.
If we are Windows users, we can use the installer of this tool to install WebTools on Windows, just as if we have Plex Server on a NAS, we must install in the corresponding package according to the brand of our server. We can download both the Windows installer and the packages for NAS from the following link.
Now, if we move to the Plex Channels section, we can see how the WebTools icon appears.
If we click on it, we will open this complement. The first thing we must do is log in with our Plex data (username and password) to access this tool.
Once inside, we can use all the options and functions that WebTools offers us. We are interested in the UAS, UnsupportedAppStore, that appears in the menu on the left. Click on it and the store of unofficial Plex extensions will appear directly to us.
We will look for the app or Channel that we want to add to our Plex and click on the button «Install» that appears next to him, to his right. After a few seconds, the new extension will already be installed in Plex. We only have to go to the extensions section of the multimedia center and we will find it there, ready to use it.
If we want to delete one of these extensions, we simply have to go back to this unofficial store, locate the extension again and press «Delete» to delete it.
