Two months have passed since Mozilla launched Firefox 66, which until now was the last stable version of its open source browser with which to stand up to Google Chrome. During these two months, the company has been working hard to continue improving its browser, implementing new improvements, news and features and being able to continue being a worthy rival for Google Chrome, especially with Edge Chromium just around the corner. Thus, just a few hours ago, Mozilla launched a new version of its web browser, Firefox 67, which comes with important changes like the ones we are going to see below.
What’s new in Firefox 67
Undoubtedly, one of the most important novelties of this new version is that finally WebRender it’s ready, and it’s starting to reach users. At the moment this function will only be activated to 5% of browser users, although little by little it will reach more users.
By default, this function will only be activated by a few users who use Windows 10 and have an NVIDIA graphic on their computers, but if we want to activate it manually in all instances of Firefox we can do so by marking the advanced configuration as “true”.gfx.webrender.all»From the browser.
Another important novelty, taking into account the privacy of the users, is that from now on when we install an extension it will not be configured by default to work in Private modeBut, if we want the extension to work in this mode, we will have to configure it manually, just like in Google Chrome. Extensions already installed will keep the standard settings, this change will only apply to new extensions.
Another novelty that has arrived with Firefox 67 is that, to its content blocking options (which allows us to choose what content we want or do not want to allow when we browse) it has now been included the possibility of automatically blocking cryptocurrency mining modules and tracking elements.
Other important changes that have also come with this new version of the browser are:
- Study: an improved version of Pocket to make the use of the platform more complete.
- Possibility of separating the profiles between the different versions of Firefox (stable, beta, nightly).
- The function to automatically upload captured captures has been removed.
- Support for the Secure Boot FIDO API.
- New sections and changes in the browser menu.
- The passwords can be saved, if we want, when we browse in private mode.
- Performance improvements thanks to features such as downloading unused tabs.
How to download Firefox 67
Although this new version of the browser is already available to all users, it has not yet been uploaded to the automatic update server or to the website.
If we want to download Firefox 67 from its website or perform an automatic update from the browser itself, we will still have to wait a few hours to get the new version in this way.
If we don’t mind performing a manual update and don’t want to wait any longer, we can download the new Firefox 67 from Mozilla FTPInstalling this version on our computer and being able to enjoy the improvements that the company has implemented in its browser in the last two months.
The Beta and Nightly versions of the browser have also made a version jump to versions 68 and 69 respectively. The ESR (long-term support) branch has also been updated to version 60.7 including mainly security patches.
